Gangotri Temple

Gangotri Temple is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. It is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and marks the origin of the holy River Ganges.

Located at an altitude of about 3,100 meters in the Uttarkashi district, Gangotri is surrounded by stunning Himalayan peaks and serene natural beauty. The temple sits on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, where devotees come to take a holy dip and offer prayers.

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Ganga descended to Earth here after King Bhagirath’s penance. The spiritual significance of Gangotri attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.

Nearby attractions include Gaumukh Glacier, the actual source of the Ganges, and Tapovan.

The best time to visit is from May to October.
